Lee Ashcroft1998/99-1999/0052 (9)15 goals

Lee Ashcroft Although often nick-named 'Mr Blobby' or 'Waste of Money', Ashcroft was not really THAT bad. Firstly, he had a lot to prove with a record transfer fee over his head. In his first season he was ravaged by injury and looked quite utterly pants.

In his second season, Aschroft came of age, scoring 14 goals. However he became increasingly frustrated at the sale of his strike partner Jack Lester, and told Alan Buckley what he thought (not a good move). Ashcroft was slapped on the transfer list overnight and in the summer was sold for just a fraction of his £500,000 transfer fee. This proved a bad move as the following season Town could have done with his presence up front.
