Question of the Week

Who will go down?

What Today Meant To Me

By: Richard Hubbert
Date: 02/09/2001

JUST AS Town fans thought life couldn't get any better after going top of division one, on came the mighty England to trounce arch rivals Germany 5-1 in Munich.

A hat trick from Michael Owen plus superb strikes from Steven Gerrard and Emil Heskey sealed a marvellous 5-1 victory that will go down in the history books as one of THE greatest England performances.

The five goals England scored and the three points gained means that we are now 4 goals better off in goal difference than the Germans, meaning with two games left, that IF England beat Greece and Albania we SHOULD (barring any major goal flourishes from the Germans) qualify as group winners for the World Cup.

This comes after Town themselves recorded an historic 1-0 victory over Yorkshire rivals Barnsley to go top of the Nationwide league sending all Town supporters into nothing but pure delirium.

How all us Town fans will feel tomorrow morning when we pick up the paper, see England have beaten our old enemies Germany and (more importantly) that Town are top of league, cannot be put into words. I have to keep checking teletext every five minutes to check I'm not really dreaming!

How do you feel about the historic Grimsby and England victories both occuring on the same day? Post your reply here on the Message Board
