David Slays Goliath With 160 Complaints

By: Graham Howes
Date: 05/09/2001

AFTER the latest announcement by the Government, that the stadium development is to go to a public inquiry, new questions have to be raised at apparent double standards when it comes to government procedures.

After all you would never see a government appointed in office with the majority that is for or against the stadium development. By the Government's figures only 160 complaints have been received, taking it in consideration that around 10,000 in the Town are for the development.

Why is there a need then? To revert it to an inquiry. It makes you wonder if Prescott has still been interfering and blocked the proposal so giving time for Hull City to get their stadium built first. You also have to raise the question of how can a small village become so powerful in political circles to firstly put the squeeze on the council and now a Government Department.

All in all any more delays will make the costs to build soar and may result in the end Great Coates winning because the club cannot no longer afford the expenditure. The longer the wait and what you see is building materials become more expensive and labour cost hit the roof with every day the development is adjourned. This may actually be a deliberate ploy and therefore the Government is playing right in their hands.

Grimsby Town especially after the 2.5 million loss announced could find themselves in a no win situation come the time of the public inquiry
