Lawrence: Forest Surprised Me

LENNIE LAWRENCE praised the quality of the opposition after 3rd place Grimsby drew a blank in an exciting 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest. "It was a great point. We got completely outplayed in the first half," said the Town boss.

Substitutes Mike Jeffrey and Wayne Burnett were enforced changes either side of half time, but Lawrence felt the pair had made the difference. "In the second half we improved significantly. I had to change the team due to injuries to Phil Jevons and Stuart Campbell and, from that point on, we picked up. It was no great tactics by the manager it was just luck. We then gave as good as got, the second half was a little classic." he said.

Lawrence admitted Forest's attacking approach to the game had caused the Mariners difficulties, something which he had not anticipated. "We had the best of the chances but they were lively on the break, they caused us all sorts of problems," said Lawrence.

"The only thing we lacked was a little bit of finish when we did get on top in the second half. They surprised me, they had a right go at it. They will be one hell of a side in 18 months time."
