Lawrence Plays Down Barnsley Rumours

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 06/11/2001

LENNIE LAWRENCE has distanced himself from the vacant managerial position at Barnsley saying he has heard nothing officially from anyone at Oakwell. Barnsley, who are on the look-out for a new manager after last month's dismissal of Nigel Spackman, had been rumoured to be interested in Lawrence.

"If I had been approached then I would go straight to the chairman and everything would be conducted in the proper manner, but I have not been contacted and to my knowledge, neither has the chairman," the Town boss told Mariners Net.

Lawrence has also dismissed reports that the Mariners are poised to re-sign striker Daryl Clare from a successful stint with Conference outfit Boston United, where he has netted nine times so far in the current campaign. The Jersey-born striker left Blundell Park last summer after five unsettled years at the club.

"I don't know where people get these stories from. Daryl has done well at Boston but any link with us is way off the mark," he added.

  • Town's Youth Team have been drawn at home to the winners of the second round tie between Peterborough and Oldham in the 3rd round of the FA Youth Cup. The match, which will be played on 1st December, is the Town youngster's last chance of silverware in a cup competition this year, having previously been knocked out of the Midlands Youth Cup and the Youth Alliance Cup.  Youth Results/Fixtures
