GRIMSBY TOWN have been handed a home draw in the 3rd round of the FA Cup against Third Division York City. The Minstermen will be travelling to Blundell Park when the match takes place on the first Saturday of the New Year.

Although the Mariners avoided any of the big clubs, a lower league team at home offers some form of consolation and a good chance on paper of progressing to the next round.

Ties to be played weekend of January 5/6/7

York currently are 5th bottom in the 3rd Division, and both sides have former players within their ranks (Alan Pouton of Grimsby and Lee Nogan of York).

The teams last met in the FA Cup in 1990 when Grimsby triumphed 2-1 away.

York Head-to-Head.

Canvey Island, who shocked Northampton today have been draw away to Nationwide toppers Burnley. A London derby between Watford and Arsenal looks a good one. Premiership strugglers Leicester are at home against Mansfield who will be looking to dump Dave Bassett's struggling side out of the Cup.

Exeter or Conference outfit Dagenham will battle out for a plum home tie against Premier side Ipswich while ambitious Cardiff are at home against Champions elect Leeds United. However the tie that will probably get all the media attention will be Aston Villa's clash against Manchester United.
