Race On To Sign Todd!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 18/03/2002

GRIMSBY manager Paul Groves will be looking today to sign on loan defender Andy Todd until the end of the season. Charlton Athletic have already agreed that the signing can take place with the proviso that he can be recalled in an emergency.

Todd scored the goal against promotion chasers Wolves on Saturday from a corner in the 88th minute after Wolves were reduced to 10 men with Kevin Muscat being sent off for elbowing Michael Boulding for the second time during the game.

After the game Groves said: "Andy Todd has been superb in his loan spell and we are looking to secure him until the end of the season. He has really slotted in well and his goals have been vital."

"We are making progress. That was a mature and pleasing performance. We took a bit of a battering last week when we let Walsall come back and draw and hopefully we have put that to bed here."

"Wolves gave us a few problems they are up there on merit and I am sure that was only a blip. The sending off gave us the incentive to go for it and that is just what we did."

Todd's signing will depend on him not having any other offers but on Friday his agent announced that there had been no other offers.

Groves will be wanting to tie up the deal very quickly as Todd will have been noticed by other clubs since his arrival at Grimsby and Groves will not want to be involved in an auction.
