It'll Go To Last Couple Of Games - Donovan

By: Richard Lord
Date: 31/03/2002

GRIMSBY Town and former West Brom midfielder Kevin Donovan took time to assess the relegation run-in after a training ground injury earlier this month left the Halifax-born player out for the rest of the season.

Donovan tore a patella tendon in his knee and will play no part in Barnsley's fight against relegation. Donovan admitted: "It's going to be the start of next season now for me. This one is completely written off."

Speaking to the Sports Telegraph the 30-year old said: "It's going to go down to the last couple of games.

"It will be two from four teams. Town's game against Wednesday is massive, and we have got quite a hard run-in.

"We've got Manchester City, West Brom and Preston to play and it's going to go down right to the wire.

"I'd be delighted if they (Grimsby and Barnsley) can both pull themselves out of trouble. That would be perfect.

"I spoke to Grovesy the other said and said that he must be used to it by now. They're starting their usual great escape now, aren't they?"

Of his current club Barnsley, the Leeds-based player continued: "It's been hard because of the results that we've had.

But it's a good club to play for and things just aren't going well. We can start afresh next year, the manager can do the things he wants to do and we'll all know where we are a bit more."
