What A Great Night!!

WHAT a fantastic night. The player of the year awards at the Winter Gardens was a complete success for, not only the fans, but the players, staff, and everyone connected with the club. The place was packed to the rafters so fans of all ages could meet their heroes.
The evening got off to a marvelous start with the band 'Yabba Dabba' doing their Abba tribute, at least I think it was a tribute; they were very good and kept the crowd entertained until it was time to greet our heroes.
The awards started off with all the youngsters collecting their respective awards for their efforts during the season, some of whom will go on to be stars of the future.
Here at the 'Fishy', it was you, our readers, that voted for your player of the year, it was indeed a great pleasure for me to be representing both the 'Fishy' and GTISC. The Fishy player of the year award for the 2001/2002 season, was no other than DANNY COYNE.
Danny of course was delighted to be chosen as winner by the Fishy for a second successive year. Speaking to him afterwards, he went on to say that he was delighted the lads had got stuck in since Groves took over. He did have some doubts about the clubs future but he always had hope, without hope it wouldn't be worth playing. He also asked me to thank all those who voted for him on the Fishy; he said he really appreciates all the time and effort that the fans put in.

The GTISC award for player of the season also went to DANNY COYNE, not only is it a double for Danny, but its a record for the club in the fact that the same player, Danny Coyne, has been voted player of the year by the fans for 2 years running. All I can say now is keep up the good work lads, and here's to the future of GTFC.

Special mentions for those that assisted me on the night and those players who stayed till the end. Like last year, I complained that some of the players went home about 10 minutes after the awards were given out, I thought that was shameful, this is the only night of the year where the supporters can meet their heroes in the flesh. I feel all the players should have stayed till the end, and will be campaigning for this to happen next year. Anyway, on to the special mentions, Danny Coyne, Steve Croudson, Micky Boulding, Johnny Rowan, Simon Ford, Grovesie, Graham Rodger, were great on the night to all the fans. They stopped right until the end and never once refused a picture, an autograph or a quick word with a fan. In fact nothing was too much trouble. Thank you lads, you're a credit to both yourselves and the club. Thank you. I would also like to thank the 'back room' staff. Dale from the official site was very helpful on the night, thanks Dale. But lets not forget Tim Harvey; he does a wonderful job and was very helpful and professional. Thank you both. John Tondeur too from Radio Humberside. It's now that time of the year when it seems the world is ending, close season, at least we have the World Cup to keep us going before we see the return of our heroes in their black and white stripes. But the futures bright..............it's Black and White. |
