New Moves On Contracts!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 30/04/2002

GRIMSBY Town manager Paul Groves said today that he will offer Terry Cooke a new contract but striker Willie Falconer is to be released when his contract expires in the summer. Cooke joined the Mariners on transfer deadline day and Groves will offer him a two-year deal.

The timing is not yet known but during the next fortnight says the Grimsby Telegraph in their report and they added that new offers will also be made to Simon Ford and Mick Boulding after both shunned the original offers.

Groves he's got little choice but to wait it out for Boulding and Ford to come back to him. "We'll be speaking to both of them again, but I can't put a time on it. We'll be trying to move things on as quickly as possible. With Michael, once players are out of contract they're able to listen to other offers.

"We have to accept that he'll want to do that, and there's nothing else we can do about it. But people can rest assured we'll be making every effort we can to try and keep hold of them."

On Cooke, Groves said: "Terry is one that we'll enter into negotiations with. He's different to what we've got here in that he's an out-and-out winger. He did well when he was here and fitted in well with the lads. He's a first division player and was worth a lot of money at one stage, so we'd like to keep him."

Groves hands are being tied as the board wait on news of the ITV Digital fiasco, but it understood that Allen, Butterfield and Burnett will all be offered one-year contracts given the current financial climate at the club.
