Duo Get New Contracts!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 05/06/2002

TWO of Grimsby Town's rising stars have been handed new contracts according to the Grimsby Telegraph who state that defender Iain Ward and midfielder Chris Bolder have agreed to 12-month contracts and are expected to sign on the dotted line very shortly!

Ward made his debut in the final game of the season against Millwall and Bolder was a star of last year's Reserves. Graham Rodger was reported to be delighted to keep the pair.

"It's encouraging that two local lads are coming through the ranks. The way things are going they're going to get games and however many people we bring in it won't be enough.

"They're a couple of lads who have done very well and Wardy pulled trees up at the end of the season. Chris is a combative midfielder who has come on leaps and bounds in the last 12 months. He would have had his chance in the first team around Christmas if it wasn't for injuries. One or two more injuries or another suspension at the end of the season and he'd have been in then too.

"Wardy made his debut against Milwall and I thought he did okay, especially when you look at the way Steven Reid is playing in the World Cup at the moment."

After graduating through the ranks Ward joined the Grimsby College Academy before being handed a contract by Lennie Lawrence.

Bolder joined the Mariners last summer when Reserve coach Paul Wilkinson recruited eight first-year pros to the club.
