New Deal For Groves!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 30/06/2002

CHAIRMAN Peter Furneaux has offered Paul Groves and Graham Rodger three year deals so that preparations can be made for the new campaign. But the chairman feels that they must put pen to paper before any of the out of contract players are re-engaged or new players brought in.

This a normal precautionary procedure and the Chairman said on Mariners Net who announced the news: "We have made offers of three years to both Paul and Graham and we have asked them to come back to the Club before the end of next week. We need to have the management team signed up before we can sanction any new signings."

"The Board want Paul and Graham to continue their excellent work here and it is important to have a speedy conclusion so we can move forward."

Paul Groves said: " It was good to get these initial talks under our belt. This was the first time that we have sat down and really discussed the details of our management contracts. Both myself and Graham will be considering the Club's offer over the weekend and we will be seeing the Chairman again on Monday. We also hope for a speedy conclusion." END

The offer of three-year contracts to Paul Groves and Graham Rodger is a clear indication of the confidence the board have in them. With less than a season in charge and with no previous experience as a management team, they produced the results that were needed.

The good relationship that exists between the management and board is evident and that bodes well for the club. Groves has the full support of the board and the fans too which may well be reflected in the attendance figures this coming season. Let us hope so. They deserve that!
