Groves Eyes Ferrari

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 31/07/2002

PERUVIAN Midfielder Jean Ferrari, who has been released by Wolves, has been reported in the West Midlands press as attracting the attentions of Town boss Paul Groves, who has been given £250,000 by the GTFC board to strengthen the Mariners' squad.

The former Sporting Cristal midfielder is understood to have been on trial at Wolves, and has attracted the attention of other First Division clubs, including Portsmouth, but to date has not been offered a contract.

Ferrari was very hurt when he was told by the Peruvian club Sporting Cristal that he did not feature in their future plans. "When they told me I could leave I was surprised, I was without words. I didn't expected that," revealed the 27-year-old winger.

Meanwhile Radio Humberside report that Town have been boosted by the news that Everton have delayed the second half of Phil Jevons £250,000 transfer fee from the Toffees by eight months, which was due to be paid after the Town striker clocked up a certain number of appearances for Grimsby.

Although Jevons is currently on the transfer list along with Town 'keeper Danny Coyne, a large financial reason for Grimsby wanting to sell the 23-year-old striker has been removed, meaning that the Town board could decide to take him off the list.
