Joe was brought on loan from Leicester City in the '76 season, then the supporters club bought him for £10,000. Waters captained Town to two promotions and made 226 consecutive appearences between 76 -77 season and the 1982-83 season. He was one of the few players who played international football (for Ireland) while at Blundell park, then Waters moved to play US indoor football for Tacoma and is now coaching a college soccer team in the US
