Who will win League 2?

Groves Targets Striker!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 13/08/2002

TOWN boss Paul Groves is targeting Ipswich striker Richard Naylor as he looks for someone to fire up the front line. He is also still waiting for a decision from West Ham about Grant McCann.

Groves said he is still in the market for a striker, but it will not be Bradley Allen.

Naylor is only sixth-choice at Portman Road and has declined offers from Peterborough and Oldham but he could jopin the Mariners if Ipswich pay most of his wages of around £7,000 a week.

"We're still looking and hopeful that something may happen." Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph.

George Burley has told Naylor he can go out on loan if someone comes in for him. "We have a number of strikers at the club. Richard needs first-team football and I've told him that he can go out on loan if he wishes."

"I don't really want to go on loan. I'd prefer to get something more permanent." Naylor said. But no-one seems to have any money at the moment and if I'm not going to play then I'll have to consider it."
