Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

It's a Grim Exile!

By: Dan Humphrey
Date: 13/08/2002

IT was a frustrating evening for Mariners fans in exile on Tuesday, as problems with the "Mariners World" live commentary left those of us away from Grimsby without any commentary from Blundell Park.

There were more of us in the Fishcake chat room than there were Wimbledon fans in Grimsby. But unfortunately, we could not even find 'away' commentary, as the Wimbledon audio link was also not working.

The scoreless draw 'sounded' equally frustrating for those at the game. 'Sounded' is probably the wrong term, as 20 odd exiled Grimbarians played a game of Chinese whispers.

For those of us following the game online, we had to make do with a combination of text commentary (example 02.34 attacking throw in John McDermott (Grimsby Town) ), and snippets of information from other web sites or radio stations.

I managed to hear about 1 minute of coverage from Radio Humberside's Gwilym Lloyd at Blundell Park, via listening to the second half of Hull's trip to Bristol Rovers, and occasional updates there. From this I gathered that Shipperley and Jevons had two chances each, Cooke and Rowan each could have scored, and Wimbledon's McAnuff forced a good save from Coyne.

A point a piece. Not much more can be said.

Grimsby: Coyne, McDermott, Gallimore, Groves, Chettle, Campbell, Coldicott, Pouton, Cooke, Rowan, Livingstone
Subs: Hughes, Barnard, Jevons, Ford, Mansaram

Wimbledon: Davis, Andersen, Darlington, Willmott, Williams, Hawkins, Francis, Agyemang, Nowland, Shipperley, McAnuff
Subs: Heald, Gier, Karlsson, Tapp, Gray

Attendance: 4,625
