Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Groves: I Will Not Quit

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 12/09/2002

PAUL Groves has vowed to continue as Grimsby Town's manager despite them being bottom of the table and without a win this season.

Groves in an interview with the Grimsby Telegraph said: "I'm no quitter. I'm under no illusions how difficult the task is but I'll keep working hard and hope we turn the corner."

"I don't believe in walking away because there's a problem. It's not me. There is a problem here because we're not scoring goals or winning games, and I want to face it and deal with it."

"If I was to rip up my game-plan and walk there would be 200 other applicants prepared to take the job on a lot less wages. It's a first division club in status, and there would be loads of people prepared to have a go at it."

On the lack of goals he said: "It's something that we're aware of. I wouldn't term it a worry but it hits you right between the eyes when you've played this amount of games and only got one goal.

"We're creating opportunities so it's not as if we're not getting there to miss them. If we keep doing that, making the chances, then sooner or later we will get a bit of luck or somebody will do something a bit special and get us a goal.

"When that happens hopefully it will kick us off."
