Is football a business or a sport?

Pay Back Time!

GRIMSBY Town FC have paid back a £100,000-plus bill for the deferred appearance bonuses for players. The players agreed to defer their payments as a goodwill gesture to help in the Summer when the club was in dire financial trouble.

The Grimsby Telegraph reports that Town's improved financial position means they have now repaid the money owed, as agreed in August.

"It's in this week's pay packet and it's been paid back." said Peter Furneaux. "We're making steady progress and it's a tight market that we're working in. We have to thank the players for the assistance they have given us by deferring their bonuses."

"People still ask me every day why we don't spend money - but it isn't healthy to keep on borrowing from the bank. Borrowing money isn't the answer to debt problems - it just makes the whole situation worse."

"But we're glad that we can pay the players back before Christmas. It's a considerable amount of money because it's been over four months."
