March Player of the Month
By: Tony Hamilton
Date: 30/03/2003
THERE are only a few games left to the end of this season, and as usual Town are in a relegation dogfight. Things being tight at the bottom it could go down to the last game of the season against Brighton. How many times have Town needed to prove themselves by winning the last league game?

Here are the six nominations for March's Player of the Month:
Georges Santos (Midfield/Defence)
Georges has been a revelation since his trial with Town earlier in the season and has had a faultless second period with the Mariners where he has forged a place in the defence. The Cape Verdes international won last month's vote with a big margin.
John Oster (Midfield)
John came back for his third and final loan period this month and it was thought at the time he brought more finesse to our midfield when we needed it. But as his loan period finished he decided he wouldn't move to Town because of their precarious League position.
Paul Groves (Midfield/Defence)
Paul has been managing Town for the last 18 months, and will be judged on whether Town stay in Division One or drop into Division Two this season. Being a rookie manager and looking at the financial side of Grimsby Town, next season will be as hard as this season.
Darren Mansaram (Forward)
This has been Flash’s first full season as a professional, and the Doncaster-born striker has proven when he plays that he has the skill and technique to carry on the good work. His performances for the reserves demonstrated to the entire Town coaching staff that he was worth a contract at the start of this season.
Danny Coyne (Goalkeeper)
Danny has proven yet again his worth to the Town squad by being ever present this season and playing with bumps and bruises. Singled out in the pre-season by being put on the transfer list, but will be a loss to Town next season when he invokes his right to a free transfer
John McDermott (Defence)
As people say he deserves a medal for his sixteen years at Grimsby Town but over this period has give a lot to the team and his team mates, and being the captain under Grovesy has probably given him his final accolade to a long career in professional football
So here you go here's the six players you can vote for and remember in the not too distant future YOU will be able to pick the overall player of the year by voting for him on the Fishy in the next couple of weeks.
