The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Keeping up with the Lawrences

TODAY there I was sat watching the 2nd Division Play off final, thinking what a load of mugs are running are the club - sacking an experienced manager and bringing in an inexperienced one who’s got us nowhere but relegation.

We can call Lennie Lawrence all sorts of things - he spent a lot of money here and left us with a few problems as well wages-wise, but as soon as the new board got their feet under the boardroom table they sacked him. I wonder if any of them rue what they've done because in the end Grimsby Town Football Club have suffered thinking they knew what they are doing?

This afternoon all I heard was that LL had managed over 1000 games, and had his ups and downs along the way, and after all those games even the man himself said this game was the best he'd been associated with. Now he’s in Division 1 and we will be struggling next season in Division 2.

I wonder what surprises the board have now? For the last few days they've started reducing Paul Grove’s war chest down to more like a tea chest and making the club look like it's run by amateurs not businessmen. Now we look like a laughing stock and it would appear to be last year's pre-season all over again - where we will be struggling to get a squad together to start pre-season training in July.

With all this happening, how many players will want to sign with all our dirty linen being washed yet again in public and promises to Paul Groves being broken by our directors? So from the way things are looking it could be a struggle staying in Division 2 next season unless the directors decide to change their minds on the way things are being done at the moment. It makes me wonder if the directors we've got CAN run the Club or are misleading us the supporters over the club's true financial position.

They came out and said that the Jarvis sponsorship deal was the biggest the club has had, but the Club is pulling offers from players with regard to them signing new contracts and they've got the season ticket and share money to use how they want. Seeing all this it makes me wonder what is really happening down at Blundell Park.

With signing players in mind I wonder how far Paul Groves has got down the line (his words not mind) and if any have shown an interest in signing for the Mariners, but all this rearing its ugly head it's going to be like Groves banging his head against the wall as he keeps getting the rug from pulled under him by our unconcerned directors. So come on Mssr’s Fenty and co. - let's go into a new season united for once and not the usual case of being disjointed
