Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Pouton Crocked Again!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 16/07/2003

GRIMSBY Town's Alan Pouton may have to undergo further surgery if the damage to his knee is a recurrence of the injury that kept him out of the squad last season for a few weeks. Pouton limped off after just 10 minutes of yesterday's private 1-0 win against Lincoln at Blundell Park.

Simon Ford is also another injury problem and he too will be seeing a specialist even though he sat out the game against Lincoln City.

Paul Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph "Alan is a major concern. We said last week that we want to get more games out of him and he's limped off with a similar looking problem to the one last season."

"Hopefully it won't prove as serious but it's the same part of the knee and he's going to have to see somebody. Alan is a big player in this team. Simon Ford has also got a sore knee and he will have to see a specialist as well."

On the squad Groves said; "It's starting to highlight the depth of the squad. We need to strengthen it as much as we can."

"We need to get in an experienced keeper. The game against Lincoln showed the type of football we'll be facing in the second division. We need a keeper who can come out for crosses and take the pressure off the back four. To be fair to Andy Pettinger he's done all right but he's only 20."

"We want and we need to get it sorted. It's been frustrating and it's been nearly two weeks without a keeper. It seems to be dragging on and it's frustrating."
