Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Situations Vacant!

By: Bill Osborne

TO date there has been no news regarding the striker that Paul Groves is seeking. But we could have news later today if he finds his man. But to me, it seems strange that we have not been able to find anyone so far.

Now I do know that strikers are not the easiest people to find but it does seem strange that with all the players who are desperately seeking clubs, we have not even managed to bring in a single trialist.

That is not a criticism of Paul Groves. He has proved himself how good he is at acquiring players but I just wonder if perhaps he is looking too high. Rooney scored for England this week so he will not be wanting to move to us!

Surely amongst the reported 600 players looking for work we can find a player of second division standard to fill the gap, although we really need a first division standard player.

It certainly puzzles me. But there again I am not a manager and this situation really does expose the problems managers have, which we seem to ignore with our demands.

Let us hope that we hear some news soon if he seriously wants another striker. I think if we could get Jevons back on board we will not need one and perhaps Groves could address the problems at the back and midfield. Another 500,000 or so would sort that.

What do you think? Do you think we need another striker or would you like to see the last player he can sign be a defender or midfielder?
