Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Groves: The Pro's and Cons!

With another defeat this week, this time at Sheffield Wednesday the question of Paul Groves' management is thrown once again into question. We looked at some of the opinions of Fishy Fans who are not noted for their shyness in coming forward.

Raymond Lucas Jnr says:

Paul Grove is fighting a losing battle at BP. At the moment, our Division 2 campaign has failed to live up to expectations, as we are currently languishing in the wrong half of the table.

My solution is simple. Its time for a change!

Who's next for the hot seat? How about a man who's known for working under financial constraints? Steve Mcmahon.

He started at Swindon, building himself an impressive reputation. After his Swindon spell ended, he moved to Blackpool, where he's currently guiding The Seasiders up the table.

Groves has done a great job, but I think it's about time to let an experienced man take over the reigns. But there could still be room for Grovesie.

Keep him at the club in an advisory role, or make him Director of Football.

If McMahon was given a shot here, with Groves by his side, I'm sure that we would return to 'The Promised Land'. Come May I'm sure that we WILL return to Division one.

So Mister Chairman, the choice is yours!

1MickyLions: says:

Groves record is worse than Lyons as manager. Grovesy as had a bloody good run off the fans when you consider we've been relegated and knocked out of two cups already this season as well as languishing near the bottom.

MarinerDave kicks in with:

At the start of the season, I said I would give Groves a couple of months to see if he could really manage. So far, we have gone out of both cups we have competed in to Yorkshire teams at the first hurdle. Our league form has been patchy at best and I genuinely feel that although Grovesie's heart is in it, he simply cannot bring out the best in the squad. I think that the board need to put together a workable new stadium plan to attract a proven manager to the club.

The players that Grovesie has brought in seem of reasonable quality, which shows he can find the players, but when they are on the pitch, his management skills (or lack of them) are cruelly exposed. Please someone suggest something!!

But Groves is not without his supporters.

Foodtown who is one of many says:

I can't believe the drivel on here and on Mariners Net about getting rid of Groves. Some have even suggested Bonetti or a combination of Futch and Cockers. Do these people know anything about the game whatsoever? Groves is new to the management game, and is gaining in experience. Why therefore replace him with people of little or no experience. Out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Keep faith. The guy loves the club. We lost against Wednesday in a poxy cup. Judge him after Christmas (and I don't mean on what gifts he gives). If we are in the bottom half of the table say thanks very much and bring in someone like Graham Taylor.

What do you think?
