Alan Pouton Back!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 25/11/2003

ALAN Pouton is back in action today after a long layoff due to an injury in a pre-season game against Lincoln City. He has been back in training for some weeks but has only now been cleared to play again.

Tonight the Geordie will start on the bench for the Lincolnshire Cup First Round tie after a long road to recovery that started in pre-season.

Mariners' supporters will be pleased to see Town's most effective midfielder back in the action and will be looking forward to him regaining his place in the first team.

This is good news for the club as it was rumoured at one time that Pouton might not play again and his return is just what the Mariners need.

Central defender Simon Ford will also get a run-out against the Imps in tonight's game.

Meanwhile Iain Anderson (ribs) and Des Hamilton (groin) are both early doubts for Saturday's clash at home to Tranmere.

Grimsby Town: Andrew Pettinger, Simon Ford, Wes Parker, Paul Groves, Kirk Wheeler, Greg Young, Iain Ward, Chris Bolder, Phil Jevons, Darren Mansaram, Graham Hockless

Subs: Ashley Hildred, Alan Pouton, Paul Huckett, Miles Chamberlain, Mark Newton.
