Lennie Lawrence Denies Move For Campbell !

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 17/12/2003

LENNIE Lawrence has flatly denied he wants to take Stuart Campbell to Cardiff City. The Grimsby Town midfielder, was signed by Lawrence for £200,000 in the summer of 2001 after a season-long loan from Leicester.

Lawrence Told the Grimsby Telegraph; "We are being linked with him because I signed him at Grimsby. But we are 100 per cent definitely not interested. He is a good lad and he did a good job when I signed him for Grimsby, but he is not for us at this moment in time. He is not what we are looking for."

Lawrence is reported to want to sign Crystal Palace's Julian Gray and it was rumoured that he had lined up Campbell as a back-up.

Campbell and Pouton are the only two players at the club who remain on contracts negotiated during the affluent time of ITV Digital and both will have to fall into line with the rest of the squad and take a huge pay cut if they are to stay. Mick Boulding, Alan Pouton, Darren Barnard and several other key players in the Town squad are also out of contract in the Summer, writes Stuart Rowson.
