Oldham Athletic Saved By Millionaires!

By: Bill Osborne

OLDHAM Athletic will come out of administration on January 15 which is good news as a relatively small club has been rescued by three millionaires who perhaps could have invested in a much higher profile club.

Simon Blitz, Danny Gazal and Simon Corney - have already spent around £7m buying the cash-stapped club which is in grave danger of going under with massive debts.

Mr Corney admitted: "We had looked at other clubs but everything seemed right with Oldham.

"There is a good team here, both on and off the pitch, and we all need to pull together. There are no imminent plans for job losses and top of the agenda is a meeting wth boss Iain Dowie to try to thrash out a contract."

"We want to be succesful but it won't happen overnight. Hopefully, there will be money to bring in players but we are not talking of a Chelsea-like spending spree. We are not Roman Abromavich but we have already showed we are financially committed."

"We are working on lots of ideas and we need to bring in new income streams. We have to run the club like a good business and we will not be throwing money away. If it takes five years or longer then we will still be around." "We are here to bring Oldham Athletic into the 21st century."
