The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Going, Going, Gone?

DESPITE all the talking, the statements, denials and speculation, It seems that Michael Boulding will be leaving Blundell Park within the next 48 hours.

Barnsley Football Club claim that they have made an offer in excess of £45,000 and Boulding wants to go to them.

Barnsley boss Gudjon Thordarson told their official website;

"The Michael Boulding saga is going on for longer than we thought and Grimsby are not helping the lad because they are delaying meetings.

"Any deal like this will always take time. I was hoping it could be sorted but the player will not be with us tomorrow. The Grimsby chairman should be fully aware of what contract his player signed and the clauses in that. The clause reads that if a club comes in with a bid of more than £45,000 he is free to go but I can fully understand that Grimsby don't want to lose the player.

"There are other clubs looking at him as well but he has expressed that he wants to come to us and it is good for him from a football view. It doesn't matter how the chairman feels. The fact is, he signed the contract with Boulding so he is free to leave if somebody will pay that amount of money.

"Grimsby are delaying things. The player has to meet with the Club and that was due to happen yesterday but they keep delaying it. We hope they will meet today. I think he will be our player by the end of the week and playing for us against Notts County".

The latest information the Fishy has is that Boulding will have talks with Barnsley tomorrow (Wednesday) and subject to agreeing terms and passing a medical he will be a Barnsley player by Thursday.

The Grimsby Town board, in the meantime, will be doing all they can to persuade him to stay, but they cannot stop him going if he wants to go and why should he stay? Unfortunately for the mariners, a move to Barnsley will be a good career move for him and Town just cannot afford to pay him first division wages.

The time has come to accept the inevitable. Michael Boulding has played his last game for Grimsby Town.
