Slade Named As Candidate

SCARBOROUGH manager Russell Slade has emerged as one of the board's leading contenders for the post of Grimsby Town boss after their first choice turned down the job last night, and another leading candidate Steve Cotterill has revealed he is likely to be appointed by another club.

Slade has been manager of Conference outfit Scarborough for almost three years, and recently signed a contract extension at the McCain Stadium. Town chairman Peter Furneaux, however, confirmed to Radio Humberside that Slade was coming to Blundell Park for an interview.

Slade led Scarborough to 15th place in the Conference last season and the Seasiders reached the fourth-round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history.

Slade would have the advantage of a thorough knowledge of top non-league players, something which former Town boss Alan Buckley used to his advantage when he first came to Blundell Park from Kettering.

The club earlier stated that former manager Nicky Law would definitely not be re-appointed.
