Prospective Manager Demands More Money!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 25/05/2004

GRIMSBY Town have been turned down by a highly-rated manager at the eleventh hour just as the contract was being drawn up.

The unnamed man had agreed to a package offered by the Mariners but came back with a demand for more money just as the contact had been drawn up.

"I am pleased we found out how he operates before we took the decision," said Grimsby Town Chairman Peter Furneaux.

"I was expecting him to hear from him with a positive answer today. But I got a call from his agent, who I have never heard of, demanding more money otherwise he would not come."

The board are actively looking at other options and these will now be pursued.

Among the men the board are thought to be keen to interview are Steve Cotterill and Scarborough boss Russell Slade.
