Bermudan On Trial

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 04/08/2004

BERMUDA international Steve Astwood is on trial with the Mariners, and started the game in Town's 1-1 draw at Halifax last night. The big West Indian almost joined Preston a few years ago, but had a work permit turned down after agreeing a contract with the Deepdale club.

Astwood joins Nigerian Samuel Umerah on trial at Blundell Park, with Russell Slade hoping to sign a new striker before the start of the season.

  • Lawrie McMenemy will open the new Blundell Park restaurant named after him on September 4, when Town play Rochdale.
