CRISIS club Grimsby Town are to trim their playing squad in order to help finance the 750K Tax bill hanging over them. Young striker Giovanni Carchedi has today been released, following in the footsteps of midfielder Ashley Hildred last week. Neither player had ever made a first team appearance.

Town boss Russell Slade revealed that the decision to release the Italian-born former Youth Team player was primarily a financial one. "We cannot afford to keep him and he needs to be playing football," Slade told Mariners Net.

Town are also looking to trim their squad further, with perhaps some of the more familiar first team players next to go.

"I am prepared to listen to offers for some of my squad players, be it on loan or a permanent move", said Slade. "I am prepared to let players go at any given time, dependant on the injury situation."

Grimsby need to find a substantial six figure sum to pay off the Inland Revenue and this week have been forced to appeal to the local community to help them out. Fans wishing to make a donation can either buy shares from the club or make a contribution to the Supporters Trust as outlined in the recent Press Release.
