Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

19/02 Swansea 2nd Half

By: Black Haddock
Date: 20/02/2005

WE came out a little more attack minded in the second half, so of course Swansea had the better of the early exchanges, but still didn't unsettle our heroes.

On the hour mark Reddy burst through and with a defender on each shoulder and one under his arm he bore down towards us, his goal bound shot well stopped by their keeper. He blasted an effort over the bar shortly after as well, still nothing from Swansea. Our little Frenchy came on for Hockless, who had tried, but never really did anything worthy of mention, a couple of long throws into the box and the occasional bit of interplay with Bull sums up his afternoon, Pinault didn't touch the ball more than twice in his 25 minute cameo appearance.

Swansea, remember them? All of a sudden they started to play a bit and a great effort flew across Williams goal, did he have it covered? Lets say yes, because as mentioned earlier, he had a fine game. Crowe, now a little tired was replaced by another centre back as Crane joined the fray, his head and body brought into action straight away, the game was picking up, it then faded away again.

10 Minutes to go and we are looking for the winner, so are Swansea by the way. They have a couple of scraps to excite themselves with, but our 4 central defenders swat them aside. Bull volleys over from just outside the box, Gritton has a one on one with the keeper, again a good take, this is good stuff from the Town, even Fleming has a shot following a corner, it is however high and very wide.

Where did the 4 minutes of overtime come from? No trainer/magic spongeman ventured on throughout this pulsating game, it must have been for all the substitutions.

Ref: Didn't notice him, so he must have been good, one of the linesmen got it very wrong towards the end though, not giving us a corner, won when Reddy ran and harried a Swan, something he did all afternoon, which is why he is my man of the match.

Coldicott comes a very close second, he covered every blade of grass and won a good percentage of ball. Fleming was an able helper, his passing let him down a couple of times, but I am being picky because we deserved the point and with a bit of luck could very easily have won. Williams gets another mention because he normally gets flack, well he didn't during this game, well done.
