Believe It Or Not!

TONY Crane could be set for his first start of the season at Kidderminster this Saturday. Crane was expected to be out for the whole season through injury, but has recovered more quickly than expected.

"He is looking fitter and that's good for us." Town boss Russell Slade told Mariners Net.

"When you think we expected him to be out for the season, he's done well. If he comes through today okay, you might see him on Saturday."

Mariners Net also commented that Slade may decide to give youth a chance in Town's penultimate game, with Nick Hegarty and Danny North given a chance.

The regular visitors to Blundell Park would be justified in scoffing at these predictions.

Slade has mentioned giving young players a chance about a dozen times and not fulfilled his promise. So don't bet any money that Crane, North and Hegarty will be seen. Just ask Mr Hockless. I think he waited 9 months. (OK I exaggerated a little but I think you get my point.)

Slade may be best advised not to play anyone he is offering a contract to. Why bother? Nothing is at stake so why risk an injury that might thwart his future plans. Giving a few young one's a chance, who knows? He might find a gem hiding right under his nose.
