Town Looking at a Premier Warm Up

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 24/06/2005

TOWN are hoping to get a warm up pre-season game against Premiership side Blackburn Rovers says the Grimsby Telegraph in a report today.

The Mariners are looking at Tuesday, August 2 as their final warm-up game before the League Two season kicks-off with a home fixture against Oxford four days later. And if the match is confirmed, it will see a return to Cleethorpes for former Town loan star Andy Todd who is skipper of the Lancashire side.

Russell Slade said: "Nothing is confirmed as yet but it would be good to get a Premiership side here. We have some good games planned anyway and it will be a good test for us with a few of the new lads getting used to their team mates."

On the new season he said; "It's a tough start because Oxford have a new boss in Brian Talbot and he will be keen for a good result in his first game.

"Then it's a long trip to Bristol midweek which is not ideal. But we have to play these teams at some point and hopefully we'll be ready to get off to a good start ourselves."
