FORMER Scunthorpe midfielder Wayne Graves has arrived at Blundell Park for an extended trial. The 24-year-old, who has been at Glanford Park since being taken on as a Youth player, was released by Iron boss Brian Laws at the end of last season.

The Scunthorpe Rivals site describes Graves, who has played over 100 career games for the Iron, as a "tough tackling midfielder who is comfortable either in the middle or down the right hand side of the park."

The Mariners are going to have a good look at the 5'8" midfielder before offering him a contract.

"I'm looking at him. He's only been here a day at this moment in time, but we shall have a better look as the pre-season progresses", Town boss Russell Slade told Radio Humberside.

Graves is expected to take part in at least some of Grimsby's pre-season games, which start aptly on July 14th against his home town club of Scunthorpe.
