Mildenhall Incident - Wrexham Responds

By: Tony Hamilton
Date: 03/01/2006

AFTER the incident at the end of the Wrexham game where a couple of fans attacked Mildenhall, the Fishy decided to seek Wrexham's views on this incident and to ascertain what action, if any, was taken against the fans concerned.

Wrexham's secretary, Geraint Parry, responded to our request with the following explanation.;

"Like yourself, I did not see the incident but have heard a number of conflicting reports of what happened.

The two young supporters who encroached onto the pitch were quickly detained by stewards and held until police arrived.

Stewards and supporters near the incident have also given reports to the police concerning the conduct of both the supporters and the Grimsby player involved.

It is now be up to the police to see fit on how they proceed.

Once they have made their decision, then either the Football League or the club itself, will implement other actions.

While supporters might have been frustrated at events during the match, there are no excuses for any of the problems witnessed after the final whistle.

Unfortunately, TV cameras present were focused on the referee at the end of the match and did not capture anything that would help.

As always, there are two sides to every story and we will now have to wait for the police to complete their investigations.

Whatever happened on the pitch, just by coming onto the playing surface, the supporters involved were breaking the law and they will have to face the consequences of their actions.

Not quite sure why you would think the club does not take a serious view of these events, because there are proper procedures to be followed and they are being followed."
