Orient Player Ratings

GRIMSBY needed to avoid defeat in the game against Leyton Orient in the East End of London. Top scorer Michael Reddy was ruled out of the game through injury.

GKMildenhallStarted off by pulling off a top save to deny the Orient attacker a superb goal with a no nonsense block which was the only real top save he had to make. Though his performance was marred by poor kicking to the disgust of Graham Rodger and Russell Slade. An okay display by Mily but his kicking as poor. 6
RBJohn McDermottBarely played after being forced off with a thigh injury. N/A
LBCroftDid okay down the Mariners' left side but did dwell at times on the ball which mainly was down to a lack of support from Goodfellow. Okay performance from 'Crofty' as he kept the Orient right side quiet.6
CBRob JonesDedication! Won every header and blocked every Orient attack he possibly could. Despite carrying a knock in the second half he still continued to probably secure Grimsby a point. He always looked a threat in the opposition territory despite Mackie wanting to exchange shirts after ten minutes. A good display from Rob.
CBWhittleHoof and hoof! Despite a clean sheet, Justin persisted in hitting it long which is impossible when your main striker is the ageing Gary Jones. Despite this he did defend okay but still his lack of pace was always going to be a problem with Paul Connor and Gary Alexander on the prowl. Not the best. 5
LWGoodfellowSo near but so far away would be the clear quote for Marc's performance in this game as he nearly bagged two in the last minute. Firstly he beat a few Orient defenders before a dipping shot whacked the top of the bar to the dismay of the gutted Mariners' fans. Then as a ball was played in from the right he took a touch before whacking he ball wide from six yards. Despite these two misses he had a good game and caused the O's real problems. A decent display but should have been the toast of the town. 7
CMWoodhouseWasn't really given the room to play his trademark through balls which definitely affected the Mariners' style of play. He still grafted and delivered some okay set pieces which has improved his rating. Did okay but not as good as he normally is. 6.5
CMBollandChased well and tried but still didn't have a huge impact on today's proceedings. He still did okay and outplayed Michael Simpson who wasn't a shade off 'Bolly'. A decent display and supplied Goodfellow with 'that chance' 6.5
CMKalalaDespite being substituted I though that JPK's effort and desire was superb. He looked up for it and fought for the cause with his strong aerial ability and quick passing. I was impressed with Jean Paul and believe he is capable of playing at this level more regularly for Town. Decent display. 7
RMCohenCoped well in two different positions (right back and winger/striker type role). Gary's flexibility is a big asset to the team as you know he will be committed wherever he plays. His willingness to win and hard crunching tackles are the sign of a player who cares. Well played.7
FCG JonesGary struggled with the pace of the game but was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after a few half chances in both halves. He needed someone for his flick-ons which Reddy would have surely capitalised on. A decent display but missed Reddy. 6.5

Match Rating7Quite entertaining.
Ref Rating5Awfully inconsistent.
Crowd Rating8Town fans were superb.
