Lincoln Player Ratings

By: Jake Olley

THE news that Rob Jones could not play for Grimsby due to his partner going into labour sent a shiver down the spine of many a Town fan. But the Mariners came away from Sincil Bank with a victory and a clean sheet. How did they do it?

Mildenhall Made one top save from Beevers and commanded his box well today. He was beaten though on a few occasions by poor Lincoln finishing and conceded two goals only for our favourite linesman to save us. A decent display but let off by poor Lincoln finishing. 7

Newey Threatened down the wing and looked good defensively. On another day his forward runs would have been capitalised on more but still did well and caused Lincoln problems. Tom also linked up well with Parkinson on the left side who credited from Newey's generosity. A good return. 7

McDermott Played little much part in the game and was replaced by Croft. N/A

Futcher What a way to return to Sincil Bank! Futch won everything and was a more than capable replacement for Jones. Futcher has been doubted in recent weeks but today he was superb and deserves the credit for a top display. Well done Futch but will Slade favour him over Jones or Whittle for the return leg? 9

Whittle Very good display by Whitts who dealt with the presence of the Lincoln front three who were always going to be threatening. He was a lot calmer today on the ball and even skimmed two players on the half way line in the second half. Thought a vital moment in the game was when Justin went down under the challenge of Mcombe which swayed the official's decision towards a foul. A very solid display. 8

Cohen Was marked pretty much out of the game and didn't have a huge influence on it which was mainly down to the fact that the ball always seemed to be on the left side. Not the best display though he has still been influential this season. 6

Parkinson Worked his socks off all game and that performance was probably his best for Town. Parky looked creative, linked up well and always looked a danger. He on two occasions came close with similar super strikes which looked to be heading for goal. He also twisted and turned before timing his ball to Woodhouse perfectly for the up and coming boxer to put it on a plate for Gary Jones. A top display and the credit is well deserved. 9

Bolland Worked his socks off again and drove Town's attacking force into fifth gear with a number of top quality forward runs. Bolly also rattled the Lincoln bar with a fantastic dipping effort which almost sealed the tie for the Mariners. Another top display. 8

Woodhouse Did very little in the game except set up the goal and then clear the ball off the line which at the end of the day are what matter. He supplied Jones with a easy tap in after Parkinson did all the dirty work and then hooked the ball from off the line to stop the curse of the ninety third minute. Did two vital things. 7

G.Jones Another hugely important goal which again hands the Mariners three points. Yes, he's not stylish and has as much flare as Reddy and Goodfellow but he doesn't half get the Mariners some points and receives very little credit. He again worked his socks off and got the winner - a job well done! 8

Mendes Worked his socks off again but still doesn't get the goals which is disappointing. Though despite this I feel he could be very similar to Michael Reddy in the way that Reddy never got the goals first season but tried and after a little bit of backing look where Reddy is now. A hard fought display but what are the odds that his first Grimsby goal will be the winner at Cardiff? 7

Subs:

Croft Didn't have to do a lot but still was solid. 6

Reddy Did very little apart from be pushed around. 6

Toner Came on to slow the game down which always means the player will have little impact 6

Ref: Too picky and blew for silly fouls though he still disallowed two Lincoln goals. 6
