SHEFFIELD United keeper Phil Barnes has signed for Grimsby Town on a three-year contract today after agreeing terms with the club.

Barnes was Sheffield United's number two after signing for them last year with Paddy Kenny being their preferred number one.

The 27-year-old started out as a trainee at Rotherham United, before a £100,000 move to Blackpool in 1997. The Blades snapped him up on a free in June 2004, and the Yorkshireman played four times for them but ended the season on loan at QPR.

Town have not disclosed the fee they had to pay for him but Town now have a new keeper which Graham Rodger described as the number one priority.
