Beat the Bookies: Week 2

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 04/08/2006

WITH the new season literally a matter of hours away, it's time to see how League Two this season will shape up. There's no doubt that it's unlikely to be much like last season with 6 new clubs and huge changes in personnel at the other 18.

First and foremost Grimsby's preparations for the first game can hardly be said to be ideal. Their squad looks too small, the pre-season results have been indifferent and - perhaps most importantly - Reddy's recent request to leave can hardly have helped lift the morale of those still at Blundell Park. The recent fiasco with Radio Humberside will not have endeared the club to those fans who do not attend every single game (probably 99% of supporters). All these factors combined mean the 13/5 on offer with bet365.com for a Boston win on Saturday looks well worthy of consideration.

If Town fail to beat Boston then, with two tricky away games coming up at Wrexham and at Bristol Rovers, the 14/1 still available with bet365.com for Town to be relegated is unlikely to be offered as generously for a while.

Forget the odds-on favourites at this stage of the season. The other bets worth going for on Saturday's coupon are the 7/2 available for Bury to win at MK Dons, 6/5 for Hartlepool to beat Swindon at home and Evens for a Peterborough triumph over Bristol Rovers at home.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Boston to beat Grimsby (13/5 with bet365.com).
  • 2. Grimsby to be relegated (14/1 with bet365.com).

Previous Bets (1 or 2 bets, around £10 per week each)
