THE Mariners meet Mansfield Town at Blundell Park tonight after two away defeats on the bounce. Boss Graham Rodger will hope for a massive improvement from Town's opening three games, which has seen them concede seven goals.

Rodger is desperately trying to add some fresh faces to his thin squad before the game. A midfielder is thought to be his priority, but he is also in the market for a defender with just two senior central backs currently at the club.

Town have been boosted by the news that both Isaiah Rankin and John McDermott should both be fit to face the Stags. Rankin came off against Bristol Rovers last weekend with an achilles problem. Meanwhile, McDermott is also expected to shake off a hip injury. Rodger will have to decide whether to keep the 4-3-3 formation he started with against Bristol Rovers last week, or whether to hand a starting berth to Peter Beagrie or Peter Bore in a more conventional 4-4-2 formation.

Mansfield meanwhile, have enjoyed a decent start to their campaign with two draws and an impressive 2-1 win over the MK Dons. New signing Matthew Hamshaw has been particularly prominent, with the winger netting twice already. The Mansfield side will also contain ex Mariners forward Michael Boulding. He is in his second spell with Mansfield, and got off the mark for the season in that 2-1 win over the MK Dons.

Defender Jon Olav Hjelde is expected to miss out with a hamstring injury, so Jake Buxton will deputise. Pacey midfielder Giles Coke will remained sidelined with an ankle problem.
