Futcher Joins Posh

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/08/2006

KEITH Alexander has signed Town defender Ben Futcher from the Mariners for an undisclosed fee. 25-year-old Futcher, who played for Alexander at Lincoln City before joining Russell Slade at Blundell Park, has signed a three year deal with Posh.

With today's new signing Nick Fenton a ready replacement for Futcher Rodger has effectively, swapped one centre back for a new one of around the same age an experience.

Peterborough chairman Barry Fry said: "I've negotiated long and hard since pre-season for the transfer of Ben and I'm delighted to have reached an agreement with Grimsby before the transfer deadline.

"He is another addition to our already impressive squad that Keith has assembled."

Futcher's poor form this season may now partly be explained by the fact that he was looking to move on to rejoin Alexander at London Road and was therefore not really committed to the Mariners.

The Futcher deal still leaves only two permanent central defenders with any first team experience at Blundell Park. Martin McIntosh, currently on loan from Huddersfield, is making up the numbers temporarily. Rookie Miles Chamberlain is the only other centre back at the club.
