Beat the Bookies: Week 12

By: Rob Sedgwick

HARTLEPOOL'S superb run of form came to a halt last week at Lincoln unfortunately, but did you clean up on the poor England results this week? Betting against Steve McLaren's flops is an absolute must at the moment and shouldn't be spurned whenever the national side play.

The Mariners have a very tough programme coming up, with the next four league games seeing them face Swindon, Peterborough, MK Dons and Wycombe, four of the top clubs in the division. With that it mind it's probably a good time to back Grimsby to be relegated, currently available at 13/2 with bet365.com. After these four games the odds could be a lot shorter and you'll be able to place a covering bet at Betfair and win whatever the actual final league placing of the Mariners.

Town's first test against a Swindon side who have drawn the last four games 1-1 sees the Mariners ranked 10/3 with bet365.com. That's a little stingy, and 8/11 for a Swindon win is probably better value if you are an odds on backer. Incidentally a 1-1 draw is available for 6/1.

In the other League Two fixtures, the big clash of the day is at the Bestcott where in-form leaders Walsall take on second place Wycombe. The Saddlers have won their last four home games by an aggregate scoreline of 12-0 and should see off the challenge of Wycombe. bet365.com offer Evens for a Walsall victory.

In the Premiership the international matches are over and the stars return to humdrum of league football after two important qualifying games. Expect a few surprise results, not least Reading beating champions Chelsea at home, for which you can get odds of 13/2 with bet365.com.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Reading to beat Chelsea (13/2 with bet365.com).
