Beat the Bookies: Week 26

PETERBOROUGH being thrashed last week by Stockport was the only decent thing which happened last weekend as it meant Beat the Bookies once more had a profitable week.

This weekend Grimsby take on Torquay in a match that defeat for either side would mean another nail in their coffin. Both side's form is wretched, both teams have made new signings this week, so there is very little form to go on, although Town fans know they were unlucky to lose last weekend. The bookies make Torquay favourites at 5/4 with Town available at 9/5. It's tempting to actually back the Mariners to win for once, if nothing else because the news about the stadium has given the whole club a lift, even it is unlikely to affect many of the current crop of players! Tony Thorpe could also help break the goal drought.

Elsewhere in League Two Chester just cannot win or even draw at home, but the bookies have made them strong favourites to beat Mansfield at the Deva Stadium. Mansfield can be backed at 2/1.

Macclesfield, having already beaten Swindon once this season, head to the County Ground to take on the second placed club. Macclesfield's recent form is almost spotless, however, and are well worth considering at odds of 16/5.

Finally into League One where Scunthorpe, who have not won for four games but are still top, begin life without Andy Keogh. They face lowly Millwall at home, who have improved in recent weeks and pulled themselves out of the relegation places. Millwall can be backed at odds of 7/2 with Betfred to cause an upset.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Millwall to beat Scunthorpe (7/2).
  • 2. Grimsby to beat Torquay (9/5).
