Keith Brown1973/74-1975/7635 (7)5 goals

Local young left winger who was introduced for a couple of games at the end of the 73/4 season. Town had been suffering from the loss of Lawrie McMenemy and it was hardly inspirational replacing him with Scunny's Ron Ashman who had taken our then less exalted local rivals straight up and down again from the then 4th Division (or League 2 as its now known) in the two seasons before.

Still we were in the 3rd Division and had been champions of the 4th two seasons earlier but form had been poor until another local, Jim Lumby, was introduced he and banged in 9 goals in the last few games and we finished 6th.

High expectations for the next season were soon dashed, Jim Lumby proved not to be the next Kevin Keegan and Brown was thrown in the deep end playing 29 games. Ashman was sacked, Tom Casey came in and a few wins late on kept us safe. Its fair to say Keith was inconsistent but he was good to watch on his better days and seemed to have potential in fact I can't really remember why he left. Of course it might be due to the fact he didn't have a perm so he couldn't be compared with Keegan. More likely he got injured, records show he didn't appear at all the next season but his contract wasn't cancelled until Christmas.

I remember he played a big part in those last few games of 74/5 and scored some important goals. His mum was sitting behind me at one such match where he gave away a penalty, apparently Mr Casey had told him to get stuck in more, which he seemed to take too literally, anyway he scored the equaliser in the same match which we went on to win.
