Beat the Bookies: Week 22

STOCKPORT'S win over Notts County ensured another winning week last weekend for Beat the Bookies, although sadly our tip of Bristol City to beat Middlesbrough in the cup never materialised.

Town return to Blundell Park to face Wrexham this weekend, buoyed by three consecutive away wins and their passage through to Wembley now one game closer. With Town's home form being dire and the Mariners having had a tough away game in midweek, we'd be predicting a case of After the Lord Mayor's Show. However Town face Wrexham whose recent form is so poor that they have lost their last six games. 10/3 for the Welshmen to win is not good value, the best we can suggest is 11/2 for a 0-0 draw or to look elsewhere.
Almost every fixture in League Two this weekend sees an in-form side face an out of form side. In nearly every case we looked at the long odds on the outsiders seem justified. Here are the ones worth considering
- Stockport v ACCRINGTON STANLEY - Stanley's away form is excellent, Stockport had a tough game in midweek against us. 5/2 is well worth an investment for an away win.
- Grimsby v WREXHAM - Town due a defeat but Wrexham probably not good enough, not at 10/3 anyway.
- Bradford v NOTTS COUNTY. County sinking like a stone with 1 in 10, Bradford should at least get a draw at home. 11/4, not worth it.
- Chester v MANSFIELD. Mansfield have not won away all season. Chester looked poor against us, but not that poor? On the other hand the season is getting to the stage where the teams at the bottom seem to raise a gear or two. 3/1.
- LINCOLN CITY v Rotherham. Lincoln's seem to be improving a bit, but Rotherham are exceptionally strong away from home. 17/10 for a City home win? Doesn't look overly generous.
- Peterborough v MACCLESFIELD. Macclesfield have not won for 10 games, and you can get 13/2 for them to break the run at London Road. Don't bank on it!
Finally a good way to almost double your money is to bet on Scunthorpe to be relegated, still available at 5/6 with bet365. With much bigger teams surrounding Scunny and Colchester it would seem very likely that both of them go down. Incidentally Lincoln are now 4/1 and Grimsby are 11/1 for the drop.
Recommended Bets
- 1. Accrington Stanley to beat Stockport (5/2, bet365).
- 2. Scunthorpe to be relegated (5/6, bet365).
