Buckley: Everything to Play For

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 01/04/2008

GRIMSBY boss Alan Buckley has not yet given up on the play-offs, which Town can still mathematically qualify for. Buckley is looking for a successful finale to the season, and hopes that Chesterfield and Rochdale will drop sufficient points for Town to sneak in via the back door.

"We don't want the league to become a damp squib. We have had a fantastic run of results since November, which has taken us from second or third bottom to the fringe of the play-offs," the Town boss told the Grimsby Telegraph. "The league performances have had a bit of a stutter since we got to Wembley. We have got that cleared up now so maybe we can have a really successful end to the season."

Town lie eight points off Chesterfield, on whom they have a game in hand. However the real challenge for the seventh spot is Rochdale, who are just one point behind Chesterfield with three games in hand. Town though do play Rochdale on Saturday at Spotland, a match which they absolutely must win to stand any hope of keeping the dream alive

The bookies make Town 33/1 to get promoted (as opposed to qualifying for the play-offs). Rochdale are around 3/1 and Chesterfield 13/2 to go up.

Buckley added: "We all needed to come down after Wembley but we will start work again tomorrow. Then we will prepare for Saturday's game."
