Beat the Bookies: Week 29

BOTH tips won in last week's Beat the Bookies, netting a much needed fifty quid for the betting kitty. Barnet's win over Bradford and Morecambe's defeat of Aldershot ensured a handsome return.

We're now on the final lap of the season, with a few games to go. Teams are starting to fragment into the hopeful, the desperate, and the indifferent. Consequently often the form book goes out of the window. The teams at the bottom often suddenly improve, and the teams in the middle of the table frequently witness a dip in form as the season nears to an end. Overall it is not a time to back odds-on favourites.
Rochdale v Grimsby Rochdale are shortest odds on the coupon this week. It has to be said that Town have not enjoyed much luck in the last couple of games, and consequently the bookies may have marked our chances of winning down a notch or two. Grimsby though have desperation on their side, and they could well spring a surprise on Dale, who have failed to win their last two home games. Town can be backed at 6/1. Selection: Grimsby
Chester v Dagenham Dagenham are definitely starting to wobble in their bid for promotion, winning just one of the last six games. Chester look from a distance to be finally sorting out their act off the pitch and it's nearly inevitable that they will improve over the next few weeks. Chester to begin a revival in this game can be backed at 12/5 Selection: Chester
Gillingham v Bournemouth Bournemouth are towards the top of the form table and Gillingham are starting to drift out of the promotion picture. The Cherries have pulled off some cracking results recently and are a fantastically priced 9/2 with Sky Bet to pick another three points in Kent. Selection: Bournemouth
Chesterfield v Barnet Barnet looked a good side when Grimsby played them recently and last week's drubbing of Bradford seemed to confirm that. Chesterfield are an inconsistent side but it's unlikely they will want to win as much as the Bees. Barnet look good value at 4/1 to continue their revival. Selection: Barnet
Aldershot v Accrington Aldershot should be backed to lose every week, whoever they play. They are nosediving down the league in preparation for Second Season Syndrome next year. Get on board Accrington at 3/1. Selection: Accrington
Macclesfield v Shrewsbury Everyone thinks Shrewsbury can't win away and even the bookies are starting to believe it, or they must be to offer 6/5 for an away win at a team who have just 1 point in 6 games. Selection: Shrewsbury
Morecambe v Wycombe Wycombe just can't score at the moment and looked low in confidence in Monday's draw with Rotherham (who were incidentally dire). Morecambe on the other hand are possible dark horses for a charge towards the play-offs and if they beat Wycombe at Christie Park who knows they could even end up meeting Wycombe in them. 15/8 looks another good bet on this week's coupon where we really are spoilt for choice. Selection: Morecambe

- Spread Betting on the Mini Performance Index with IG Index (25 points for a win, 10 for a draw, 10 for a goal)
- The Monkey (betting on Town to win each game 3-1, i.e. the complete absence of any betting strategy).
