Newey Joins Dale

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/03/2009

TOM Newey has joined Rochdale on loan until the end of the season. Newey was one of a trio of players who were told several days ago that they were free to leave the club. Newey's commitment to the side and the manager had been under question for some time by a lot of supporters.

The left sided players has been at Blundell Park since June 2005, and has played predominately at left back. He has played in 29 games this season, scoring just once in a cup match at Blackburn.

Goalkeepers Phil Barnes and Gary Montgomery, who were told they were not needed at the same time as Newey, have today also been freed from their contracts "by mutual consent".
