Clarke Signs for a Year

UTILITY player Jamie Clarke has signed a new one-year contract with Grimsby Town. The 26-year-old, who had been out of contract this summer, has played for the club in a number of positions. He was signed as a right back but has probably played more games in midfield than he has in defence.
Clarke made 32 appearances for Town last season, and will have to fight for a regular first team berth in the new campaign.
Clarke told Mariners Net: "Every day I see that players have been released and it is a really uncertain time for a player out of contract. It's good to get things tied up for another year and I can now have a few weeks to recharge the batteries."
The 24-year-old Ivorian has a year left on his contract, but Mike Newell would like to tie him up at Blundell Park beyond that.
Newell told Mariners Net: "I think there's a lot more to come from him and I think he will get better and better playing alongside Barry [Conlon]."
